So I’m pretty much done with the next step of the Main Story Quest now, which is the end of The Siege of Khor’minos and the penultimate dungeon of the campaign. Just a couple bad-ends and the post-quest world changes need to be poked at now.
With that on the imminent horizon (and figuring a lot of people are going to be starting new saves around the time it drops), the team’s decided to go back and revise what to us has been a bit of a bugbear for a while now: the Hornet Hive, Alraune, and Azzy’s recruitment. There’s been a lot of community feedback over these events over the years that basically breaks down into the following issues: people don’t like the binary choice between killing or enthralling the Alraune; the Hornet Hive’s “corruption path” is basically a dead end; Azzy’s recruitment is so obtuse that there’s a pretty constant thread of people going “wait you can recruit her??” and I can’t really blame them.
So, here’s what we’re doing:
- Azzy has a new introductory event that now replaces the mandatory Alraune Effigy encounter in the garden. The point of THAT encounter was always just to make sure you saw Effigies at least once before you saw their mom; now the burden of that has been moved into Azzy’s intro.
- The progression to unlocking Azzy’s quest has been completely reworked: you just need to spar her, and she makes that abundantly clear in her dialogue. You no longer need to have cleared the Alraune’s Garden to being the quest, either.
- The Hornet Hive Dungeon has had its level scale adjusted to be at least reasonably possible pre-Alraune Garden. Most enemies within have received a 1-2 level nerf.
- The internal progression of the Hornet Hive dungeon has been reworked to no longer require you leave the hive to go purify the core: Liaden can now do the whole thing at once.
- Pursuant to this, there is no longer an option to kick Liaden into the hornet honey pool. That dead end has been pruned. Instead, there is now an option to send Liaden to a nearby town (which removes her from the game). If you have a save wherein you kicka da paladin, you’ll be prompted to choose between the two options on load.
- Azzy’s actual recruitment text has been cleaned up; the Champion is no longer quite so hypersexual about things if you haven’t already laid Azzy by then! Platonic knight-friend is valid.
- There are new resolution options for the Alraune (note that killing or bedding her yourself is still totally on the table): if you have purified the Hornet Hive before tackling the Alraune’s Garden (which is an option now!), you can tag the hornets in to help contain the problem without killing or bedding the plant-milf.
- … Alternatively if you have finished helping Ahmri’s centaurs, you can tag in the Behemoth to plow the Alraune into submission.
I think that about sums it up.
Like I said I’m dotting my Ts and crossing my Is on the next MSQ dungeon, which is a big chunky boi. (If you’re on our Discord you’ve probably seen me pulling my hair out and cursing Past Savin for how many threads are active throughout Act 2 that all need accounting for or resolution! There’s over 100 pages of post-end-boss narrative alone D:) It’ll probably be a bit between me sliding the finished product into Drake’s DMs and it releasing, because there’s, well, a lot of dungeon to code, including a whole new minigame! Please be patient just a little longer <3

I feel that is true for more than just bimbo Liaden, seems corruption over all is lacking.
To be honest, I kinda of feel at this point the title is doing more harm than good since it doesn’t feel like a corruption game.
I am sure Savin and Team have something up their sleeves for future updates that we’ll be surprised on later down the line
if no one wanted to write it, i wouldnt blame them necessarily- its just one of the things that come with these types of games. You can write nearly all manner of things to the player, since they are still choosing , and therefore consenting, to these things. But with things like corrupting others, I can see how it can stir up some discomfort with entirely removing the mind and bodily autonomy of another being in an explicitly evil way. Especially if the victim is an innocent and good person like Laiden. I can see why a lot of similar content would be ignored or shafted. Maybe with this in mind a shift might occur in the future where the PC actually cant add to the corruption directly at all.
so, is it still the case that you have to choose between Azzy as companion and keeping the corrupt hornets?
Is there still a possibility to Bimbofy Azzy some other way, or will that be a casualty of the pruning?

Unless I’m missing something or this is just a precursor to more Hive content this feels like such a peculiar choice. I don’t think anyone ever kicked in Liaden to just get rid of her, but to keep corrupt hornets. I figured most people’s qualm was that you couldn’t corrupt the Hive and recruit Azzy. This update effectively just gets rid of the entire corrupt route, both how you get to the hive and its resolution.
About 90% of the people I talked to said specifically they did it just to get rid of Liaden lol.
But yes, it cuts a corrupt route that basically didn’t go anywhere and never was going to. I’ve spent years getting feedback that it wasn’t worth ever doing that route because you lost out on too much.
What did people lose out on by corrupting the hive? You miss recruiting Azzy and Liaden doesn’t come along for the dawnsword quest, but is there more content in the hive itself that I’ve been missing? Or do you just mean those two?

So, removing Liaden, does that mean you cannot purify the Hive if you do this route or can you bring it to her Father still?
Or the Hive just stays corrupted because this choice and you can’t get Azzy either? I am assuming the effect is the same and you lose Azzy as a companion… but if you can get Azzy still as a companion, it removes having to share her, but you basically lose out on a few quests and items since they rely on Liaden.
You can still purify the hive and get Companion Azzy.

Yep. As soon as they released this update I downloaded the previous patch just so I can access those. I got it from the patreon. Think you can also get it from previous Steam versions.
Bit sad I’m not gonna lie, that corruption path was the only one where male PCs could sex Liaden and now it’s being removed outright. Now the only corruption path that felt worth it/impactful to a faction is being pruned. Something something one less Champion is getting Corrupted.
Also I’m assuming this new purified hornet resolution for the Alraune won’t control the situation to the point a certain elf doesn’t get corrupted if we send her to the wayfort instead of town going forward.

Just wanna put in a bit of support, I appreciate the addition of a more platonic recruitment of Azzy. I like her fine, but I was always a little annoyed by how the game assumes you two were in bed with each other even if you’ve never pursued it. I usually skipped her, since recruiting her was kind of a pain if you didn’t want to bone. Then during the Liaden confession scene, Azzy was acting as though we were a couple and I don’t think I ever did anything with her. If I could I would just let the two be girlfriends and stay completely out of their hair.
So thanks for adding some more less hypersexual content, weird as that sounds for a porn game. I’ll probably recruit Azzy in more playthroughs now. I would usually only grab her when i wanna do a Teatime for dragons before.

I have to admit I’m pretty disappointed by these changes. One of the things I enjoy most in a roleplaying game is having a wide range of options — even if some of them are weird, niche, or lead to “dead ends.” That’s what makes my choices feel meaningful and my character feel unique.
Removing paths like the corruption route or cutting options (even ones with bad outcomes) makes the game feel more railroaded. I understand the goal is to make things flow better, but I’d rather see those paths expanded or given more depth instead of just being removed. Part of the charm of CoC2 was that it let players make questionable or dark choices and live with them.
I hope future updates keep the focus on player agency and don’t flatten things into one “correct” or “safe” route. Having messy, imperfect choices is what makes a roleplaying game feel much better.
That’s exactly how I feel. I love the writing for this game and have explored most of the routes of every situation. This update only prunes certain routes and options to put it more on railroads. Besides the resolution it also gets rid of the aggro way to get Azzy to tell you about the Hive. Platonic Azzy is a really cool option to add though.
Hopefully this means that huge Hive content is coming later, otherwise this pure route is an even bigger “dead end” making it one of the only factions(Centaurs, Orcs, Alraune, Elves, Lupines, Etc.) in the entire game that a Corrupt PC would actively avoid interacting with entirely.
Compare and contrast with CoC 1 where if you were to corrupt to quickly you lost access to Tel’Adre. This was a HUGE punishment for going hard into corruption early and had no benifit.
But the game didn’t care, and if you wanted to play like a monster it would let you.
And I think thats the difference between CoC2 and both CoC1 and TiTs. CoC2 evil actions are largely limited to ‘I am choosing to help Kasyrra.’ Its Rival the demon (who isn’t exactly evil from what we can tell) or be romantic with her.
While in CoC1 and TiTs the evil path is ‘you are a power hungry selfish dude and act however you want’
Is there gonna be consequences for making sub-optimal choices during the preceedjng quests(Failing the harbour/not touching machine?)? i know that i peesonally did not willingly suspect someone that everyone is suspecting. would be neat to have a unique scene or bad end for that
Damn I actually just wanted the corrupted hornets for a “basically a demon” run. I didnt even really have a problem with laiden and even thought her little thing with azzy was cute. Now i just…HAVE to purify the hive? I just hope I dont “have to” to continue the story

I feel that removing the Liaden corruption route seems like a waste. Can we suggest implementing a route similar to what Drifa went through in the Corrupt Lupine Quest but instead Liaden being tempted to undergo a corrupt hornet TF route? Let her be smitten by corrupted Azzy so we can also keep the relationship similar to that of the purify route. Endquest: Corupted Liaden Hornet Cleric.

That said CoC2 is more about the corruption itself than being corrupt I feel, it’s harder to write for than CoC, a much more dark game in comparison.
You’re being pulled by multiple forces as opposed to being the sole force. I can see the conclusion of TiTs before this.

like i dont want to be a jerk but that kinda is concerning, heck I just wanted to be able to bring azzy as a companion and corrupt the hive since the idea of a corruption playthrough is fun
it feels like more and more we either dont get a corrupt path with a lot of chars, or some of them now seem to be being taken away

Are there any plans to make the character portrait requirements less restrictive? 500 kb for a png is a little much. I know nothing about coding, so it may be a major hassle to even touch it, but could you not even bump up the max size to like, 1 mb?

I’m surprised these changes are unpopular. Boosting Azzy’s trust to access the Hive was very annoying because you were not allowed to feel indifferent towards her if you wanted to do the content. Also I don’t care about the bimbo stuff so that’s no loss for me. Thumbs up
i don’t think azzy being easier to recruit or the hive quest restructure is unpopular. i think people are upset that one of the few corruption options in a game called CORRUPTION of champions just got axed out of nowhere.
at the very least, they could’ve reached out to the community and explained that the writers have no interest in expanding that route further and put up bounties for community writers to step up and add content. and if no one stepped up, then yeah, go ahead and axe it.
and I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t care about bimbo stuff either. you’ve seen one bimbo, you’ve seen them all.

That’s literally what we did. I’ve tried for like 5 years to get somebody to do more Corrupt Hornet stuff; I mentioned it was probably going to get cut well over a year ago.
An alteration to this that keeps being able to corrupt the hive and stuff would really help, could make it so Azzy is recruitable in that so she gets more use still
and just keep the corruption option around, even if it is a long time to see more content there or if it stays barebones it still kinda feels better to have it as a option
cause doing this without adding a more fleshed out path for corruption jsut feels like a net loss
I really like a lot of what you guys do with this game but the lack of corruption options is starting to get really depressing
so this update actually kinda ended up feeling like content was just net removed, not added.
I think the problem is perspective. Because the Azy stuff was so early in the game, the team probably had all intentions of multiple branching paths. Centaur village is another example. The problem is that the story has just become too big for that to be viable.
If every major plot point had a fully branching path, the game would become too lopsided. People would fully miss tons of content on the path they didn’t choose or didn’t like, and who wants to write or work on something that very few people see? The game is long. Too long now for branching paths to make sense. It would literally end up as two completely seperate games being worked on, and this game is already overburdened with so much content that takes up months and years to work towards even the ONE ending. That’s all that’s really being nicked here, is a secondary path that goes nowhere and was never going to see more action.
For people who don’t interact heavily with the game or are first timers, the ‘alternate route’ felt like a trap. One that nixed a bunch of content they might never even be aware of if they aren’t the type to wiki things.
I feel like the best way to do corruption content is to have it be AFTER the characters being corrupted have completed their impact on the main story line. There’s nothing stopping people from going in now and adding stuff like corrupting the hive, or the centaur village, or anything really. Once the characters in an area have no more bearing on the main story, corrupting them can be added without any negative impact on the necessary moments the main plot needed them to play. I would also argue it’s better thematically to have the MC save everyone so the plot can progress… only to corrupt them later for their own aims.
It also allows for targeted corruption, say if a writer was only interested in corrupting a single character. The team has a complete understanding of where everything is going now, and could stop corruption content that wasn’t going to work out because of where the story is going from being written BEFORE it can cause an issue.

It’s what people will do. Every time any story progress happens there’s loads of people saying they start new saves to see it.
Meanwhile I’m out here still using the save I was using in the pre-release version XD

Why would people be starting new saves specifically around that time? I know, dumb question, but would like to know.
I’d assume to refresh themselves on the story so far, or to immerse themselves in one continuous playthrough from start to “finish.”
Or just to see all the new stuff that’s been added since last time they started a new character that they’ve missed.
tis a shame to see a corruption route go, but if it was never going to get expanded then I suppose it does make sense. Compared to what you missed out on it was extremely lopsided. Reducing the wiki-dive requirements for one of the main companions is definitely an improvement, though.
Cool! Rewriting all sorts of old stuff is an endless loop to get stuck in, but since the game is closing in on the end(relatively speaking), I think it’s smart to go back and iron out stuff that was finished a long time ago and had some issues.

Does this mean you’re now forced to Purify the Hive? You can’t just leave it corrupt anymore? Necause I sorta wanted to keep the Hive corrupt, but still have a way to recruit Azzy from it. Because I feel that was the reason most people chose to purify the hive is because you couldn’t recruit Azzy (I personally enjoy collecting followers even if i don’t use them).

Whoa there. It seems unnecessary to kink shame people for their desires in a game designed to cater to letting people experience things they can’t/won’t/shouldn’t do in real life.
As a girl who has no interest in men, I never bothered with the bimbo route because it doesn’t appeal to me. I like Azzy strong and dominant so she can push me to the ground, make me lick her feet, then fill me full of her eggs. If someone wants to experience things from the other side I see no harm. The choice of what to do with Azzy and Liaden was always up to the player, none of it was forced.
My favorite form of corruption is something like giving the lovely ladies of the game big fat dicks to knock me up with because that’s MY kink. Dodging male dicks is my own little minigame. Lol. That doesn’t mean I’m going to get upset that men are in the game though. It isn’t fair to ask players who want to experience dominance through corruption in the game ‘corruption of champions’ to disregard their own desires.
Their kinks are every bit as valid as mine, as long as no choice is forced on the player that they wouldn’t enjoy sexually. (Bad guys doing bad things for the plot notwithstanding.)

I, however, am watching as conversion therapy is about to make a comeback and my marriage turned illegal just because I’m married to someone with Female on his birth certificate.
